Project Manager – Hardware & Software Development

Location: Dorset

Salary: c £50k

The successful candidate will be an experienced Project Manager who can demonstrate previous
relevant experience. Strong customer communication skills and leadership are essential.

Through leadership and engagement, the project manager will ensure that all aspects of the project are executed in the most efficient and profitable manner for our client, whilst at the same time projecting a highly professional image to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Identify project objectives, scope, deliverables and measures of success
  • Act as the main point of contact with the customer for all project matters
  • Manage customer expectations and ensure that they are met or exceeded
  • Prepare Project Initiation Documents
  • Prepare effort and timescale estimates for project activities
  • Prepare and maintain the Project Plan and ensure that the project is delivered on time
  • Identify any variation from plan and take corrective action
  • Liaise with Accounts, prepare and maintain the Project P&L Sheet and Cash Flow and ensure that the project achieves or exceeds its margins and cash flow targets. Identify any deterioration of margin or cash flow position and take corrective action
  • Prepare project information and written reports as required, including a monthly Project Report
  • Maintain a project issues register and ensure that action is taken to address issues
  • Maintain a project risk register and ensure action is taken to mitigate risks
  • Ensure project resources are in place to deliver the project
  • Take the lead role in projects from launch to completion
  • Manage a cross functional project team ensuring that each team member understands their role, the activities assigned to them, the deliverables expected from them and the timescales available
    to them
  • Communicate with the project team ensuring that team members have a good understanding of the project goals and take collective responsibility for delivering the project
  • Provide leadership in the resolution of technical issues and challenges
  • Liaise with other departments necessary for delivery of the project, including Production, Supply Chain, Service, Technical Support, and Product Development
  • Negotiate contract variations and other project changes with the customer and secure additional work at good margins
  • Ensure timely and professional responses are made to the customer
  • Ensure all commitments are met
  • Ensure all applicable regulations are adhered to
  • Organise on-site training of customers prior to full deployment
  • Oversee acceptance testing and ensure the system leaves the factory in accordance with the requirements
  • Ensure the system is installed and operating to specification and therefore ensuring all payments due to my client are made in full and on time
  • Support presales as required – prepare and manage offers for bids and contract variations. Attend and support customer tender presentations as required

Experience

The Project Manager will need to have experience of the whole project lifecycle from bidding to warranty support and will have a professional, technical background. You are likely to be qualified to at least degree level in engineering or science.  Strong candidates will have previously managed projects which include substantial hardware and software development. you will have a proven track record of delivery to external customers.
