October figures: surge in new jobs is further evidence of UK recovery

Figures released for October show the number of new job opportunities being posted by employers surged, giving a Reed Job Index reading of 139.


Job demand

The number of new jobs on offer in October grew 4% month-on-month and 8% compared with the same period last year. On average, the Index has shown positive growth during each quarter of 2012.

Two thirds of the nation’s employment sectors showed significant month-on-month rises, with Education (+17.0%), Customer Service (+11.8%) and Sales (+12.1%) showing the highest rates of growth.


Salaries on offer for new jobs rose one point in October to give a Reed Salary Index of 97, although this figure remains 3% lower than when the Index began in December 2009…
