Ford to cut 1500 jobs in UK

Ford is planning to close manufacturing sites in Southampton and Dagenham with the loss of 1,500 jobs, bringing to an end a century of the car maker’s vehicle production in the UK.

The company will shut down its Southampton plant, where Transit vans are made and around 500 people are employed. Southampton is the last remaining plant in the UK where Ford makes vehicles.

Ford will also end its stamping operation in Dagenham, accounting for the remainder of the job losses. The closures are expected by mid 2013….
